DOES RECOVERY OF LINEAR FEATURES INCREASE FUNCTIONAL HABITAT FOR CARIBOU?

Laura Finnegan, fRI Research

16-ERPC-01

This is final year of a multi-year project. In this final year we will focus on building models to i) predict alternate prey use of linear features, ii) validating models of human and animal use built in previous years, iii) assessing what linear features are on a natural recovery trajectory and iv) integrating these with results of human, caribou, predator and alternate prey use of linear features to fine tune priority areas for restoration identified in previous years. In addition, because applied research is only useful if it is actually used by land managers, some of focus of our work in 2016/17 will be ensuring that products and results produced by this project are disseminated to partners, planners and managers through workshops and presentations, and through one on one explanation and interpretation of results to land managers and planners within individual member companies and within the Government of Alberta.
