Provide industry with a tool to minimize or eliminate odours and emissions by providing a review of technologies and operational practices to minimize or eliminate odours and emissions from oil production sites. This will include a summary of mitigation technologies and a best management practice guide for operations. To take a more holistic approach in the broader picture proactive and reactive approaches will be investigated.
Odour concerns from industry stakeholders and NGO are increasing.
CASA odour management working group is currently developing an odour management framework for Alberta. The working group will look into following areas:
- A gap analysis for odour management in Alberta.
- An investigation of odour assessment options, including a review of health and quality of life impacts, priority compounds, odour thresholds, and measurement methodologies.
- A consideration of odour management options, including complaint investigation and analysis, avoidance and mitigation strategies, and awareness and education.
- Enhancements to performance monitoring, regulation, and enforcement
When the CASA working group has been formed and begins to work on this issue, it should become more clear what the knowledge gaps are and whether those gaps could be addressed through an AUPRF study.
